Platelet Adhesiveness

چکیده
By MURRAY WEINER, M.D., KURT ZELTMACHER, M.D., CARL REICH, M.D., AND SHEPARD SHAPIRO, M.D. I N 1941, Helen Wright’ described a method for estimating the adhesive quality of platelets. Confirmation of the original findings by Spooner and Meyer’ established the procedure as a means of distinguishing this property of platelets. It is the purpose of the present report to evaluate the usefulness of the method in clinical medicine.

Platelet adhesiveness: the effect of centrifugation on the measurement of adhesiveness in platelet-rich plasma.
Platelet adhesiveness has been measured in citrated whole blood and in platelet-rich plasma obtained from normal subjects, splenectomized patients, and from patients in whom the diagnosis of recurrent venous thrombosis had been made. The duration of centrifugation used in the preparation of platelet-rich plasma was found to have a profound effect on the measurement of platelet adhesiveness beca...
متن کاملPostoperative changes in platelet adhesiveness.
Platelet adhesiveness was measured in patients undergoing operation. With the rotating bulb technique adhesiveness increased steadily to the sixth and ninth days following surgery. The glass bead filter technique demonstrated a marked increase in platelet adhesiveness on the day following operation.
متن کاملA note on platelet adhesiveness in ischaemic heart disease.
Platelet adhesiveness was measured in vitro in a group of patients with ischaemic heart disease and in a group of matched healthy subjects using either 1% EDTA or 3.8% sodium citrate as anticoagulant. When sodium citrate was used platelet adhesiveness was significantly greater in the group with ischaemic heart disease. However, no difference was found when EDTA was used. In both groups platelet...
متن کاملRole of erythrocytes in the acute platelet response to operation.
A marked increase in platelet adhesiveness was shown to occur within four hours of operation. Postoperative red cells produced greater adhesiveness in platelets from a common pool than did preoperative red cells. A greater increase in platelet adhesiveness was observed following operation with the whole blood technique than when exogenous adenosine diphosphate was added to platelet-rich plasma....
متن کاملPlatelet adhesiveness, coagulation, and fibrinolytic activity in obesity.
In a study of 41 fasting subjects it was confirmed that fibrinolytic activity was reduced in obese persons: an increase in fibrinogen was also associated with obesity. There was no correlation between obesity and the platelet count, platelet adhesiveness to glass, the level of serum fibrin degradation products, or the whole blood clotting time in plastic tubes.
